Kristen Wiig 'not planning' to do 'Bridesmaids' sequel
"We're not planning on doing one," Wiig says. "We had a special time making the first one, but we're really excited to try something else."
Wiig is not the only one skipping out on a possible sequel. Melissa McCarthy, who is receiving Oscar buzz for her role in the film, says she wouldn't do a follow up without Wiig and believes that such a film is "a terrible idea."
Universal, the studio behind the movie, is rumored to be exploring possibilities about making a sequel without Wiig. A Universal rep says, "We are over the moon with the success of 'Bridesmaids,' and if we do a sequel we want to get it right. We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we'll move forward."
Wiig says that she and her "Bridesmaids" co-writer Annie Mumolo are working on a new film. "It's going to be a little bit of a different tone, but it's going to be a comedy, for sure," Wiig says.
