Kristen Wiig, Tobey Maguire star in 'The Spoils of Babylon' trailer
"The Spoils of Babylon," the new Funny or Die-produced IFC comedy starring Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire, at long last has a trailer. Coming courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, the ultra dramatic trailer shows off the fact that this series will feature the kind of bizarre, off-the-wall comedy IFC is becoming known for.
The six-part miniseries, which premieres on IFC on Jan. 9 at 10 p.m. ET, follows the melodramatic misadventures of the wealthy Morehouse family. A spoof on classics like "Dallas" and "The Thorn Birds," "The Spoils of Babylon" is supposed to be an adaptation of the book of the same name by fictional writer Eric Jonrosh (Will Ferrell).
Wiig stars as Cynthia Morehouse, the daughter of oil-rich magnate Jonas Morehouse (Tim Robbins) who is in love with her adopted brother Devon (Maguire). She also has to deal with the machinations of her evil son (Haley Joel Osment). Later, Devon becomes estranged from Cynthia and he ends up falling for a scientist (Jessica Alba).
"The whole show is ridiculous and I mean that in the best way. The things this family goes through, the murder and the lies and the affairs, is so absurd and bizarre and written so well," Wiig tells EW. She adds of her costar Maguire, "People know Tobey from more serious roles. But he made me laugh so hard. I'm so excited for people to see him in this context."
