Lamar Odom and the Dallas Mavericks part ways for goodAdd to Favorites | Khloe and Lamar
Odom, whose struggles with the Mavs this season have been documented on both ESPN and E! (thanks to "Khloe and Lamar"), and the team have agreed to part ways. The Mavericks aren't formally releasing him, but Odom will be listed as inactive for the rest of the regular season and playoffs and won't be with the team.
"The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team," Odom tells ESPN.com. "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."
Even if the Mavericks waived him, Odom wouldn't be eligible to join another team this season, ESPN notes. The deadline for teams to pick up a player off waivers passed March 23. The Mavs could trade him in conjunction with the NBA Draft in June since he's technically still on the roster.
Odom spent the previous seven seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers but was traded to the Mavs in December. He's averaged career lows in points (6.6 per game), rebounds (4.1) and minutes played this season.
