Lance Armstrong sued for post office sponsorship money
The court document reads, "The USPS paid approximately $40 million to sponsor the USPS cycling team from 1998 to 2004."
The Justice Department says it wants to recover triple the amount of the funds, or $120 million, under the False Claims Act, an act designed to impose liability on people or companies who defraud government programs.
The complaint alleges that the use of banned substances, which Armstrong admitted to earlier this year in his famous Oprah Winfrey interview, constitutes a breach of contract with the Postal Service.
The complaint names Armstrong, team manager Johan Bruyneel (pictured above with Armstrong in 2010) and Tailwind Sports LLC in the lawsuit.
