Find out what Laura Prepon thinks about achieving lesbian icon status
Fans have reportedly even started referring to Alex as a "lesbian icon." Although the title bears a large crown, the actress is more than grateful to wear it, "Honestly the fans are so awesome. Seriously I don't know how to thank them," Prepon tells Zap2it and a small group of journalists at the "Orange Is The New Black" Season 2 press event. "They've really helped the show become what it is, and also it is just so flattering when you portray a role and people relate to it and gravitate towards it, it's the best compliment you can get."
The massively positive reaction from viewers most likely stems from Prepon's enjoyment of playing Piper's manipulative on-again, off-again ex. "Alex is by far one of my favorite people I've ever played. She's such a bada** and so awesome. She's flawed, she's not this perfect woman," Prepon says. "Nobody's perfect, and I feel like audiences relate to people who don't always make the right decision. What's so great about her and Piper is they both screw each other over constantly, but they both totally love each other and its this tumultuous push-pull crazy thing. It makes for really good TV."
Co-star Jason Biggs, who plays Larry, acknolwedges that his character is at a disadvantage with Alex. "Poor Larry -- how can he compete with a lesbian icon?" he says. "There's like two people on Team Larry and there's like a whole country devoted to Alex."
Tough competition indeed. Let us know what you think about the ferocious Ms. Vause's Season 3 news in the comments below.
