Lea Michele talks Cory Monteith going to rehab: 'I will stand by him through this'
"Glee" star Cory Monteith is headed to rehab to continue his longtime battle with drug and alcohol abuse, checking in voluntarily on Sunday for treatment. While his treatment may impact filming of "Glee," one thing that's not in any danger is his off-screen relationship with co-star Lea Michele.
"I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this," Michele tells People, in a statement following Monteith's confirmation that he's seeking help. "I am grateful and proud he made this decision."
Their characters have been involved in an on-again off-again romance since the show debuted in 2009, and Monteith and Michele have been dating publicly for about one year. Michele recently said that Monteith has always been incredibly supportive of her, so it's no surprise that she's standing behind him as he faces his current struggles.
"He makes me feel like I can do anything. For the first time in my life, I feel really, really settled and happy. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world," she said in December.
Monteith, now 30, has been candid in the past about his struggles with substance abuse as a teen.
