LeAnn Rimes on 'X Factor' performance: Singer denies drunk-duet denial

Some have suggested that Rimes was drunk while performing her "How Do I Live" duet.

On Thursday morning, TMZ posted a response, allegedly from Rimes, saying, she was in no way impaired.

"I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song," Rimes reportedly said at the time.

However, Rimes posts on Twitter later, denying she ever gave a statement to TMZ -- or any other outlets -- to that effect.

She writes, "In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage. It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl."

She continues, "And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is 'It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I'll be watching for her to win tonight.'"

TMZ shoots back with a story saying her rep did indeed give the site the quote, saying it could be put on TMZ.com and attributed to LeAnn Rimes.
