Leslie Carter, sister of pop stars Nick and Aaron, was laid to rest on Sunday, Feb. 5 with only some of her family members in attendance. Brother Aaron made it, as did mom Jane, but the most famous Carter sibling was absent.
According to E! Online, it wasn't for lack of trying -- reports say that Nick didn't actually know when the funeral was being held and he had performance commitments over the weekend that prevented him from traveling to the ceremony in Upstate New York.
"I wanted to be at my sister's funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic," Nick says in a statement to E! News. "I love my family. I want to thank everyone for all of their compassion and support that I have received during this most difficult time."
A source who attended the funeral says around 60 or 70 people paid their respects to the new mom, who died last week at 25 from unknown causes, though it's suspected the former "House of Carters" star overdosed on prescription drugs.
"It was a very wonderful and touching ceremony," the source tells E!.
Both Nick and Aaron are continuing to honor their sister's memory. Aaron, who's currently costarring in "The Fantasticks" off Broadway and competed in the Food Network's "Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off," tweeted, "The truth will reveal itself. I Love you Leslie soo very very very very very much!! virtually no words. You will always be my best friend."
Nick says in a statement, "There are so many emotions for me surrounding the loss of my sister. I am trying to stay healthy, positive and focused."
