'Live with Kelly and Michael' has a very good first day in the ratings

The premiere of "Live with Kelly and Michael" on Tuesday (Sept. 4) scored big gains over the show's average for last September. In metered-market households (the only ratings available at the moment), the show scored a 3.9 rating/13 share, up 44 percent from the 2.7/9 "Live" averaged last September.

Strahan's official debut as Kelly Ripa's co-host -- he guest-hosted the show several times previously -- was No. 1 in its time period in 14 of the nation's 15 biggest markets and was "Live's" highest-rated since shortly after Regis Philbin departed last November. It was also the best metered-market performance for "Live" on the day after Labor Day since 2003.

Word that Strahan, a former All-Pro defensive lineman with the New York Giants, would be Philbin's replacement leaked a couple weeks ago. That didn't seem to dampen viewers' curiosity any.
