Lou Diamond Phillips joins 'I'm a Celebrity'

LouDiamondPhilips_290 Lou Diamond Phillips has taken his dramatic acting experience to deal with the drama on NBC's "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me out of Here!"

The "La Bamba" actor has joined the ranks of the NBC "celebrity" reality show contestants, it was announced Tuesday.

Now, if Phillips, 47, sounds like an odd casting choice considering the train wreck potential for the show and their C-list reality status, then you're right.

Phillips is best known for his dramatic roles, ranging from "La Bamba" and "Young Guns" to his recent television work. He's also a cast member of Sci Fi Channel's, excuse us, Syfy's upcoming "Stargate Universe," set to premiere in October.

Then again, perhaps the actor's personal life will be the factor in causing drama in Costa Rica. In December 2007, he was sentenced to three years of probation, 200 hours of community service and a year of domestic violence counseling after he pled no contest to domestic battery stemming from an August 2006 incident in which he beat up his live-in girlfriend.

Somehow, we don't think that will go over well with "Celebrity" contestant Janice Dickinson.
