louie-s4-so-did-the-fat-lady.jpg "Louie" has been picked up for a fifth season on FX, which is good news for fans of the Emmy-nominated series. The details of the pickup, though, are a bit of a good news-bad news situation.

The good news is that the show will be back in spring 2015, a much shorter layoff than the 19-month gap creator/star Louis C.K. took between Seasons 3 and 4. The bad news is that Season will run just seven episodes -- well, "seven or eight," as FX Networks CEO John Landgraf said Monday (July 21) at the summer TV press tour. FX ordered 13 episodes for Season 4, and C.K. turned in 14.

"'Louie's' fourth season was once again groundbreaking. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking -- always thought provoking," FX Networks CEO John Landgraf says in a statement. "The show went to narrative and cinematic places no comedy has gone before and we look forward to seeing what Louis comes up with next."

"Louie" is currently nominated for five Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. C.K. has individual nominations for his acting, writing and directing.
