'Luck' comes out of the gate early on HBO [Updated]
HBO is hoping to give its new drama "Luck" a leg up by pairing the series premiere with the finale of one of its established shows.
The "Luck" pilot will debut Sunday, Dec. 11 after the finale of "Boardwalk Empire," Variety reports. It will be a one-time-only preview, though
"Luck" stars Dustin Hoffman as a recently paroled gangster who wants to re-assume his former position at a horse-racing track. The show also delves into the lives of the trainers, gamblers, jockeys and other personalities at the track; the cast includes Nick Nolte, Dennis Farina, Kerry Condon, Richard Kind and Jason Gedrick. David Milch ("Deadwood") created it and executive produces with director Michael Mann ("Collateral," "Heat").
The scheduling move seems like a pretty sound one on HBO's part. "Boardwalk Empire's" season finale should draw a decent-sized audience, and we suspect its fans might be inclined to give "Luck" a try as well. Here's a teaser for the new show:
