Macklemore and Ryan Lewis: Grammys performance 'was magic'Add to Favorites | The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, one of the biggest hip-hop acts today, stop by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Tuesday (Jan. 28), where they talk about their emotional Grammys performance where 33 couples, both straight and gay, were wed on stage.
"It was so emotional," DeGeneres tells the duo. "I was crying, Portia [de Rossi] was crying and you could see Keith Urban, a lot of people in the audience were crying. Were you emotional?".
"I definitely did," Macklemore replies. "I got emotional during rehearsal and I got emotional during the performance. During the third verse when I started rapping, and that's when the procession of couples started coming in ... and everyone stood up at that point and you know, it just gives me goosebumps thinking about it now. To watch the Staples Center kind of erupt and stand up and participate in that ceremony, it was magic."
Below, the guys talk about their relationships. Macklemore is recently engaged, and he talks about how his fiancee has been by his side through all the tough times of trying to make it in the music business.
"My fiancee was with me when we were printing up 20 shirts at a time to sell it at a show with 15 people there. She's been with us every step of the way," says Macklemore. "She produces the music videos, she's our tour manager. She's been there from the beginning, so last night was especially. ... when we won best new artist, she kind of just broke down into tears and I was like all right, we're definitely being watched by like 30 million people right now."
