The first scrap of film from Season 7 of "Mad Men" is out, and per usual with all things teaser-y related to the show, it's almost maddeningly cryptic.

All we see is a medium shot of Don Draper (Jon Hamm) walking off a TWA flight and putting his hat on. Jet noise and a swelling music note provide the soundtrack. The tagline: "Mad Men: Takes off Sunday, April 13."

But just because there's not much on the surface doesn't mean there isn't much to talk about. Let's take an unnecessarily deep dive into that 15-second teaser, shall we?

The man

Don, as usual, is looking dapper as he disembarks. Then again, he's usually been able to project a composed image, even when his life is a complete mess. And boy, was it at the end of Season 6 -- a forced leave of absence from work, a(nother) crumbling marriage and a daughter who can barely stand to look at him.

For all that, though, it seemed that Don took the first step toward pulling himself back together when he took his kids to see the former whorehouse where he was raised. Maybe confronting his past head-on will have a positive effect on his future. At the very least, it looks like he got some needed rest during his imposed sabbatical.

The setting

Wherever Don has landed, it's awfully bright and sunny. The first inclination is that he's in Los Angeles, where Ted and Pete were headed at the end of Season 6 to open a West Coast office of SC&P -- and where Don initially was going as well before he changed his mind, which in turn was the last straw for Megan. "Mad Men" films in L.A., so there's little doubt the scene was actually shot there. But the show has always made its Southern California scenes a bit brighter and more vibrant than those set in New York, and that appears to be the case here.

If that's the case, the question then becomes what Don's doing out there. Is he checking in with Pete and Ted? Drumming up business of his own? Something else entirely?

The music

When the teaser first hit the Internet Thursday (March 6), the background music was a remix of "Que Sera Sera" from Wax Tailor. Now, as noted above, it's just a bit of instrumentation and jet noise. Which mostly makes you wonder who decided to make the change, and why.

The wait

Is any of this conjecture right? Your guess is as good as ours. "Mad Men" opens Season 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT April 13 on AMC. What did you see in this first teaser?
