Madeline Brewer bares it all in "Hemlock Grove" Season 2, but she is no stranger to having sex for a role. But Brewer's "Hemlock" sex scenes and nudity are very different from similar scenes in "Orange Is the New Black," which provided her a new challenge.

"'Orange Is the New Black,' their love scenes are much more raw because they need to be, because it's like you're hiding," Brewer tells Zap2it. "But this is very stylized and very tasteful, I think. It's not gratuitous in any way. I feel it only just supports the storyline."

Miranda strikes up relationships with Peter (Landon Liboiron) and Roman (Bill Skarsgard) after she arrives in Hemlock Grove, which brings out new facets of their characters.

"When Miranda and Peter are together, it's so you get a glimpse at Miranda's tattoos, and you also see him for the first time being really vulnerable to a woman. Same thing with Miranda and Roman," Brewer says. "Miranda's on top, and that's showing that Miranda has power over these two in some way. It's showing Peter's vulnerability, and also Roman letting his guard down a little bit and trusting someone. Although it is love scenes and nudity and blah blah blah, it is much deeper than that, and it's representative of something much deeper than that."

As for the threesome between the characters in episode 6, which Liboiron and Skarsgard say was all about the guys, Brewer says, "That was silly." Though the threesome wasn't actually shown, Brewer does reveal that she was wearing sweatpants in the post-coital nude scene at the beginning of episode 7.

But sex wasn't the only circumstance that required Brewer to get naked. Miranda also becomes a surrogate mother to Roman's daughter with Letha, Nadia, which meant Brewer had to act out lactating -- and liking babies.

"It was horrifying, because I'm afraid of babies -- or I was, before I met the babies," she recalls. "Not only was it weird to be having my character be lactating ... it was so horrifying holding those babies. They weren't screaming like, 'I want my mommy.' They were screaming like, 'Someone is trying to kill me, mom. Help me.'"

That pandemonium on set didn't last forever. "It was so bad, but we eventually got it. They fell asleep in my arms," Brewer says. "Eventually they were totally calm. I love them."

"Hemlock Grove" Season 2 is available to stream in its entirety on Netflix.
