The mini is described as a fast-paced thriller set against an international political backdrop. Hugo Blick, who won a directing BAFTA for 2011 mini "The Shadow Line," is writing and directing. Production begins next month ahead of a 2014 premiere in the US and UK.

Gyllenhaal will play Nessa Stein, the daughter of a Zionist arms procurer who as a child witnessed his assassination. As an adult, her efforts for peace between Israel and Palestine create an international political maelstrom.

Soon to be seen on the big screen in "White House Down," Gyllenhaal's credits include "The Dark Knight," "Secretary" and an Oscar nominated role in "Crazy Heart."
