It's almost like you can't do anything weird on camera without becoming a meme these days. That's the best explanation for the Internet's sudden obsession with a dry-mouthed Marco Rubio during the State of the Union response on Tuesday (Feb. 12).

Either that or we all find licking lips and grabbing water bottles really funny.

The online notoriety began when Rubio, a Republican senator from Florida, had a serious case of dry mouth while offering the GOP response to President Obama's State of the Union address. The politician probably said many things that we, as informed citizens, should consider and debate.

But it's more fun to watch a guy drink water.

After a parched Rubio spent some time licking his lips, the senator gave up and reached for a bottle of water to drink. He explained the moment on "Fox & Friends" Wednesday morning (Feb. 13): "My mouth got dry, and I had to get some water. I figured I would better off taking the water and taking the hit for it than being unable to pronounce my words," Rubio explained.

So what was so funny about this? You can decide for yourself by watching the video clip above or by enjoying the inevitable GIF below.
