Mariah Carey performs in Central Park with a designer sling
This is pretty much the definition of a diva.
The New York Philharmonic had Carey as a guest for the Major League Baseball All-Star Charity Concert on Saturday (July 13). Proceeds from the concert will go to benefit relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy victims. After her injury last Sunday (July 7), Carey's participation was called into question.
But she made it.
Carey was a few minutes late to begin the concert, time filled in by the orchestra. When she did arrive, the singer was quick to mention her injury and what she had done to deal with it. "I'm not in the best of health here," Carey announced early on. "[The sling] was us getting creative." Mariah later draped the sling with a Gucci feather stole.
For the second half of the concert, Carey returned all in black (again with a matching sling) and continued to perform, despite admitting to being in some pain from the injury. According to a spokesperson for Carey, the singer is suffering from "bruised ribs, dislocated shoulder, temporary nerve damage to the arm."
At the end of the concert, Carey performed "Hero" and thanked the crowd before a fireworks display began.
