Martin Scorsese partners with HBO on Bill Clinton documentary
The film -- made with the full cooperation of William Jefferson Clinton, the 42nd President of the United Stares -- will focus on the politician's views on history, politics, culture and the world. Richard Plepler, the CEO of HBO, and Michael Lombardo, the president of HBO programming, announced the coming film on Monday (Dec. 17). According to their statement:
"President Clinton is one of the most compelling figures of our time, whose world view and perspective, combined with his uncommon intelligence, make him a singular voice on the world stage. This documentary, under Marty's gifted direction, creates a unique opportunity for the President to reflect on myriad issues that have consumed his attention and passion throughout both his Presidency and post-Presidency."
Both Martin Scorsese and former President Clinton added statements on the new documentary project as well.
"A towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues, President Clinton to shape the political dialogue both here and around the world," Scorsese said. "I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure."
"I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as President, and my work in the years since, with HBO's audience," President Clinton stated.
Serving as President between 1993 and 2001, Clinton led the country through a personally tumultuous but economically positive time. He has since established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the goal of improving global heath, strengthening economies and protecting the environment.
HBO has not yet set a date for the production and broadcast of this documentary.
