Hot on the heels of the big announcement of a female comic book version of Thor, the publisher made another universe-altering announcement on Wednesday (July 16).

Marvel CCO Joe Quesada appeared on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" to reveal that Sam Wilson, a.k.a. the Falcon, will be the new Captain America beginning this October. Wilson will take up the mantle of Captain America in "Captain America #25," written by Rick Remender.

This is the first time the iconic shield will be held up by a black character, though it is not the first time it has been used by someone other than Steve Rogers. That's good news for Anthony Mackie -- who portrays Wilson in the "Avengers" films -- right?
