'MasterChef': Joe Bastianich not surprised to be tapped
"They were looking in the world of food professionals," he tells Zap2it. "They wanted people who were camera-ready and are not chefs. It's a pretty small world."
Bastianich grew up in the restaurant business, then tried Wall Street -- "It was less about wanting to work on Wall Street and more about an acute fear of poverty." -- before he opened his first restaurant with his mom.
"On this [Gordon] was so adamant about keeping it real," Bastianich says of "MasterChef." "I understood that, and about keeping the timing up. It shows in the production."
