Matt Bomer thanks fans for 'Fifty Shades of Grey' petition
The wait to find out who will play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades of Grey" is over. Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson won the roles after a lengthy auditioning process, which means rumors that actors like Matt Bomer will play Christian Grey have been put to rest.
"I'm so grateful for the fans and touched," Bomer tells Entertainment Tonight of the fans' interest in him playing Christian. "I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota."
Fans feel differently. A Change.org petition to replace Hunnam and Johnson with Bomer and Alexis Bledel has over 51,000 signatures and continues to climb. It's doubtful that the change will take place, though that hasn't stopped passionate "Fifty Shades" fans from hoping.
Of course, according to Bret Easton Ellis -- the same man who said Bomer was not right for the role of Christian because he is openly gay -- Bomer was never in contention for the part. Whether or not Bomer could have been Christian Grey, one thing's for sure: the guy is a class act for how he's dealt with the situation.
