Meet 'The X Factor' finalist: Chris Rene
So here are a few things you probably didn't know about Chris Rene:
Hometown: Santa Cruz, CA
Coach: L.A. Reid
Musical influences: Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Kanye West, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner
Favorite Album: "Recovery" - Eminem
On how friendly nudging got him to reconsider his musical path: For a long while people would tell me, "Why aren't you on one of those competition singing shows?" They would say, "Why isn't your music on the radio?" They'd be asking me, "Why, why, why?" And I'm like, "I like music. I make music. I haven't met the right people yet." And so it was like pressure to me. I was supposed to do this. I didn't have any excuse not to do this.
On overcoming initial doubts about "The X Factor": I felt like I wanted to be an amazing artist, and amazing artists don't come on shows like this...Then I saw a guy named James Durbin who's from Santa Cruz (Rene's hometown) and he was on " American Idol" and he got to the Top 4. And he's in the newspaper all the time. And I'm like, "He did it?! Oh man I'm going."
If he could perform any song on "The X Factor": A mash up between " Where is the love?" ( Black Eyed Peas) and " I just called to say I love you" ( Stevie Wonder)
On the biggest challenge of the singing competition: Every week is the biggest challenge, no matter what. Going up there and trying to do your best. It's been a challenge the whole time.
