Mel Gibson pleads 'no contest' to domestic battery of ex Oksana Grigorieva

oksana-grigorieva-mel-gibson.jpg Mel Gibson pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of spousal battery on Friday (March 11) in an L.A. County courthouse.

Though not necessarily an admission of guilt, Gibson was sentenced to 36 months of probation, one year of counseling and 16 hours of community service. According to TMZ, Gibson will reportedly spend those 16 hours working with Mending Kids International, a charity run by ex-wife Robyn Gibson.

"I have a good grasp of everything my attorney has discussed with me, yes," said Gibson in court after the charges were read.

Grigorieva was not present at the hearing. But, according to E!, she was cleared in an investigation of whether or not she attempted to extort money from Gibson for a series of voicemails she recorded of their, umm, heated conversations.

Gibson's new movie, "The Beaver," is due in theaters in May.
