Mel Gibson rant: Joe Eszterhas' tape reveals a raving man in need of some serious help

mel-gibson-rant-joe-eszterhaus-recording Mel Gibson may need a nice soothing cup of chamomile tea -- or massive amounts of therapy. While on vacation in Costa Rica with friends in December, including Joe and Naomi Eszterhas, screenwriter Randall Wallace and his girlfriend Elizabeth Topps, he had a bit of a rant. And by "a bit," we mean the man appears to have lost his marbles.

The Wrap posted an audio recording of Gibson screaming awful things you wouldn't say to your worst enemy, provided to them by Eszterhas. (The two had teamed up to do a film about the Maccabees and had a falling out. Eszterhas spoke about Gibson's "violent harangue" on "Today.") Most of them are far too nasty to post here, but this was during a dinner party and the least nasty thing he says is "Who the f*** wants to eat?"

"The bottom line is it shows to me he badly needs help," Eszterhas tells the site. "My interest isn't to damage him with this tape but to prevent damage being done to others, starting with Jews, including Oksana and now, I'm sure, me. I strongly believe that unless he seeks and receives some kind of psychiatric help, someone is going to get hurt."

Eszterhas says his son Nick (who recorded the incident) wanted him to reveal the tape. He says, "'I know how frightened we all were. No one has the right to treat another human being that way. This tape shows him the way he really is.'"

During the recording, there are several slurs against woman. It's hard to make out what else is there, but there is also a crash and someone telling him to calm down. Be warned. This recording is NSFW.
