Melissa McCarthy on being asked to host 'Saturday Night Live': 'Inappropriately loud cry'

melissa-mccarthy-emmy-getty.jpg "Mike & Molly" star Melissa McCarthy is all the rage lately. She gave a scene-stealing performance in "Bridesmaids," won the Emmy for "Mike & Molly" for Best Actress in a Comedy and is hosting "Saturday Night Live" on Saturday (Oct. 1).

She tells the Hollywood Reporter of receiving the phone call to host "SNL" -  she was rug shopping with "Bridesmaids" writer Annie Mumolo and her phone rang with the offer. "I went into such an embarrassing, weird, inappropriately loud cry," says McCarthy. "Annie was running circles. She thinks something horrible is happening because I'm bent over, literally, in the rug section of Living Spaces wailing."

Mumolo adds, "I thought someone had died."

Melissa also tells THR that criticism of her looks doesn't really bother her anymore, not after becoming a mother to her daughters Vivian, 4, and Georgette, 1 1/2.

"The stupid stuff like what I wear or how I look I can't control, so I just try not to give too much energy to it. At 20, I would have been like: 'Don't they like me? Was it my hair?' At 41, I think the things that define me, I hope, are a lot more than those kinds of petty things."

She also is going to work on designing a fashionable line of clothing for plus-sized women, since she has always had such a hard time finding fashionable clothes that fit. She even designed her own Emmy dress, since she couldn't find what she wanted.

Congratulations to Melissa on all her success!
