Michael Fassbender's 'Assassin's Creed' film gains a 2015 release date

Michael Fassbender's "Assassin's Creed" movie finally has been given a release date. The Ubisoft video game adaptation will be joining the increasingly crowded 2015 release slate, claiming the Memorial Day weekend slot with a May 22 premiere date.

Coming Soon has the release date news. Fassbender is attached to both star in the film and produce it, while Michael Lesslie is penning the screenplay. No director or other stars are attached at this time.

From the way things are shaping up, 2015 is looking to be the biggest movie year in recent history. "The Avengers 2," "Star Wars: Episode VII," "Avatar 2," "Justice League," "Ant-Man" and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" are all slated to hit theaters in 2015, along with the "Fantastic Four" reboot, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" and the "Finding Nemo" sequel "Finding Dory."

Meanwhile, studios are snapping up video game properties left and right, with films based on "Portal," "Tomb Raider," "World of Warcraft," "God of War," "Mass Effect," "Metal Gear Solid," "Splinter Cell," "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" also in the works.
