Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' jacket up for auction - will it earn over $400,000?

michael-jackson-thriller-jacket.jpgJulien's Auctions is hosting a huge Music Icons auction on its website Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26. Possibly the biggest ticket item? The red leather jacket Michael Jackson wore in his "Thriller" video, with a big MJ autograph on the sleeve.

The auction is happening right now and as of 3:46 ET on Saturday, the jacket was up to $180,000. It is expected to earn upwards of $400,000. In the auction description (which you can view here), it says, "A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit The Shambala Preserve. It is at The Shambala Preserve that Jackson's two Bengal tigers, Thriller and Sabu, have been living since 2006 when Jackson left Neverland Ranch," so that's cool.

This jacket really is a rare piece - the auction description also says it is one of two jackets Jackson wore during the filming of "Thriller" and the other one is in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, so this is your only chance for such a piece of pop culture history.

It seems only right the jacket is up for sale on the second anniversary of the pop star's death. From what we know of MJ, he would want a fan to have it.
