michael-johns-american-idol-dead.jpg "American Idol" Season 7 finalist Michael Johns has died unexpectedly at the age of 35, multiple news outlets confirm. The news was confirmed by the webmaster of the Australian singer fansite, along with several other "Idol" sources.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cause is believed to be a blood clot in his ankle. Stay tuned for updates to the breaking story.

While Johns finished in eighth place on "Idol," the singer-songwriter has achieved modest success following the show. He appeared briefly on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" in 2012, when he sang at a dinner hosted by friend (and "RHoBH" husband) David Foster.

Johns had been in the studio recently, and tweeted in July about recording new music.
