christopher-evan-welch-gi.jpgHBO's new comedy "Silicon Valley" lost one of its cast members midway through filming when Christopher Evan Welch died in December. Creator Mike Judge and fellow executive producer Alec Berg say they miss having him around.

"He was incredible, and we loved writing for him," Berg said Thursday (Jan. 9) at the TCA winter press tour. "He was the guy at the end of every shoot day with him, you'd drive home with his [character]."

"Yeah," Judge adds," "imitating him and ... it was a real shame."

Welch had filmed five of the show's eight episodes at the time of his death, playing a billionaire venture capitalist who becomes very interested in buying lead character Richard's ( Thomas Middleditch) search algorithm.

Judge says the episodes Welch shot feature "a lot of great scenes" with the character, and both he and Berg have fond memories of him.

"He was an amazing guy and super talented and incredibly enthusiastic," Berg says.

"Silicon Valley" is scheduled to premiere April 6 on HBO.
