Mischa Barton under psychiatric hold

Mischabarton_beautifullife_290 Troubled actress Mischa Barton has been hospitalized after seeking help for an undisclosed "medical issue," but that's not quite the full story.

The former star of "The O.C." was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold by the Los Angeles police and then transferred to Cedars-Sinai Wednesday night, reports Access Hollywood.

Apparently, officers were called in Wednesday afternoon to Barton's home to take care of the medical issue, but then placed under Section 5150 -- a code that allows authorities to hold a person involuntarily if they present a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder.

Sound familiar? Britney Spears was also placed under 5150 hold -- twice -- in January 2008.

In April 2008, Barton received three years' probation for a DUI the previous winter.

She's been looking at a career revival lately, having joined the ensemble cast of The CW's "The Beautiful Life: TBL." She also stars in the film "Homecoming," but will be unable to attend the world premiere Thursday night.

We hope she's better soon. We want to see Mischa's dramas on the screen in "TBL," not in the tabloids.
