Miss Universe 2011: Did Oprah want Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup to win?
Apparently fans of the pageant are not universally on-board with winner Leila Lopes, Miss Angola. A vocal group of Filipinos -- and possibly one big-name erstwhile daytime talk star -- are convinced that Shamcey Supsup, Miss Philippines, was basically robbed of the title.
A poorly sourced quote making the rounds on Facebook and Twitter, and attributed to Oprah Winfrey, questions the results:
"I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point."
We're going to go out on a limb and guess that Oprah probably didn't weigh in -- if only because her grammatical lexicon probably does not include " rethink of her answer."
Though Supsup supporters also point out that she was ranked highest in an online poll of fan-favorites at the official Miss Universe site.
What do you think -- did the right woman win?
