This year's Miss World contest was fraught with controversy as Muslim hardliner groups called for the Indonesian government to cancel the pageant amid claims that it shows too much skin and goes against Islamic teachings.

In the face of protests, Miss World organizers agreed to cut bikinis from the swimsuit competition, replacing them with more conservative sarongs. That wasn't enough to appease the Islamic Defenders Front, who threatened to disrupt the event, though local police says no rallies were staged on Saturday.
