Model Lauren Scruggs loses her left eye
"The surgery consisted of removing her left eye, which included nerves. The doctors were excited about the surgery and said everything went as planned and unbelievably well," says the family in a statement posted to a website created in her name at Caringbridge.com.
On Monday, the family announced that Scruggs was recovering and even eating solid foods, calling her progress a "miracle."
In the accident, Scruggs' left hand was severed and she sustained severe facial injuries.
"Along with the pain she was already experiencing with her arm and shoulder injuries, the removal of the left eye is also very painful," the family adds. Still, doctors are confident she'll recover.
