'Modern Family' spinoff with Rob Riggle in the works at ABCAdd to Favorites | Modern Family
Deadline reports that ABC and 20th Century Fox TV, which produces "Modern Family," are working on a turning their hit comedy into a franchise. They're reportedly mulling over several ideas, as the project is in very early stages, but one concept that is being explored would be built around Riggle's Gil Thorpe, who he played in two episodes in Season 4.
Gil Thorpe, as you'll recall, is southern California's most successful real estate agent, and Phil's ( Ty Burrell) biggest rival, who briefly employed Claire ( Julie Bowen). He was also wildly off-putting and would shout "Thorpedoed" after getting one over on Phil.
The project is being led by "Modern Family" co-executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, who would write the script. They wrote one of Riggle's two episodes from last season, "Career Day." Steve Levitan, "Modern Family" co-creator, is expected to have some involvement, while his fellow co-creator Christopher Lloyd would likely remain solely focused with the parent series.
Do you think a "Modern Family" spinoff with Rob Riggle would be a good idea, or is there another peripheral character you'd rather see catapulted to the foreground? Let us know in the comments below.
