ariel-winter-gi.jpg Ariel Winter, one of the young stars of "Modern Family," has been removed from her home following allegations that her mother abused her.

The 14-year-old Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy on the ABC comedy, was removed from the custody of her mother, Cyrstal Workman, after an Oct. 3 court hearing, TMZ reports. At that hearing, the judge heard allegations of physical and emotional abuse against Winter and ruled they were serious enough for Winter to be taken from her home. She's currently in the custody of her older sister, actress Shanelle Workman, and their mother has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Ariel.

TMZ also notes that Shanelle Workman, 34, went through a similar situation with her mother in the 1990s and was placed in foster care after being removed from Crystal Workman's home.

Another hearing in the case is set for later this month.

In addition to "Modern Family," Winter has the lead voice role in Disney Channel's upcoming series "Sofia the First." She's also appeared on "ER" and "Bones" and in the movies "Speed Racer" and "A Thousand Words."
