'Modern Family's' Sofia Vergara gets 'Smurf'y

Sofia Vergara, who currently stars on the critically acclaimed ABC sitcom "Modern Family," has joined the cast of the big-screen adaptation of "The Smurfs," says The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

The trade claims she'll play Odile, an exec at a cosmetics company and on-screen wife of Neil Patrick Harris' character.

Okay, that's a little odd. It wasn't too long ago that THR had reported that "Glee" star Jayma Mays will be playing his wife, a pregnant one at that.

Somehow we don't think NPH will be practicing "Big Love"-style polygamy in the children's film. Either the trade got one of the roles mixed up or perhaps one lady will play an ex?

"The Smurfs," directed by Raja Gosnell, will begin shooting in New York in early April and is scheduled for a summer 2011 release.
