'MythBusters' gets 'Crabtastic' as 'Deadliest Catch' captains stop byAdd to Favorites | MythBusters
In tonight's (Wednesday, May 8) episode of Discovery Channel's "MythBusters," Jamie Hyneman, Adam Savage and the team take on two of the crab-boat captains from Discovery's Tuesday-night hit "Deadliest Catch" to see if some of their beliefs are backed up by evidence or are just fish stories.
Johnathan Hillstrand, co-captain (with brother Andy Hillstrand) of the F/V Time Bandit and Scott "Junior" Campbell Jr. of the F/V Seabrooke head to the waters near Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay, Calif., with Hyneman and Savage to see if a crab pot will indeed drag a deckhand to the bottom of the sea if his foot gets caught in the rope coil.
Then the MythBusters crew -- Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara -- test whether it's better to work a 30-hour crab-fishing shift without stopping for sleep. Lastly, they stuff explosives into one of the crab pots from the Time Bandit -- a boat known for its fondness for fireworks -- to see if a crab pot is truly indestructible.
Zap2it shot some questions to Campbell about the experience, and here's what he had to say:
Q: How does it feel to be a part of "MythBusters," and are you a fan?
A: I'm a huge fan, and it was an honor to hang out with those guys. They're super cool.
Q: Did you hope to get useful information from this or was it just for fun?
A: It was pretty much just for fun. It was useful information for the viewers.
Q: What was it like shooting near Alcatraz?
A: Shooting near Alcatraz was an eerie feeling.
Q: What's scarier, crab fishing or watching the "MB" team try to simulate it?
A: I would say watching the "MythBusters" team try to simulate it. We have years of experience. They had one day.
Q: Did you always want to blow up a crab pot? (And why didn't you blow up one of your own?)
A: We always wanted to blow up a crab pot to see if it can be done. The reason why we didn't blow up one of our own is because it's too expensive.
Q: Have you been inspired to try some Time Bandit-style fireworks on the Seabrooke?
Q: Did you get to visit "MythBusters" HQ?
A: Yes, I did, and it was awesome.
