It's looking more and more likely that 'N Sync will indeed reunite at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 24). A new -- and already verified -- Twitter account for the group has been set up, and the first tweet seems to indicate an upcoming performance.

That first message from @NSYNC reads as follows:

"Mic check, mic check one.. two... is this thing on?!"

Is the message nothing more than a greeting sent out into the vast Twittersphere? Or does this tweet indicate that the famed boy band is getting ready for another performance.

Whatever the case, the Twitter account is definitely meant to represent the full group of 'N Sync for the first time since the guys went inactive in 2002. Fans were listening too -- within three hours, the message was re-tweeted almost 10,000 times while the account gained more than 27,000 followers.

That this is a real account for 'N Sync is made clear in its description:

"This is the one & only official twitter page for *NSYNC! Follow @jcchasez @jtimberlake @Iamckirkpatrick @realjoeyfatone & @lancebass for their latest updates"

Those would be the Twitter accounts for J.C. Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass. Presumably, we will be seeing all of them perform together soon.

Rumors of an 'N Sync reunion at the VMAs have been circulating for some time, although no one in the band or its management was willing to confirm that Timberlake (receiving an award at the event) would be joined by his boy-band brethren.

This does seem to indicate that he will.
