'Nashville' is not like 'Glee,' say stars Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen

There's "a fair bit" of music on the show, says star Sam Palladio. Makes sense, since it's about two feuding country superstars in the Music City.

"The great thing about it is it's not your 'Glee' or 'Smash' where a song kind of bursts out of thin air," Palladio tells Zap2it. "It's all very much based in reality, so if you get a piece of music it's in a gig context, or it's an open mic night at a bar."

Palladio's character, Gunnar, learned in the first episode that he has a musical connection with Clare Bowen's Scarlet. While their relationship is innocent so far, Bowen says there's potential for more.

"They're kindred spirits," Bowen tells Zap2it. "Scarlet is a poet and a closet songwriter, I guess. They discover that they can write music together. You can't do that with everybody, so there's a really special relationship there -- and there's a little spark also. Anything can happen!"

Check out the video below for more of Palladio and Bowen's thoughts on the series, including the joy of actually filming in Nashville and where they fall in the Team Rayna/Team Juliette debate.

"Nashville" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
