National Donut Day freebies: Free donuts at Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts and more

national-donut-day-2013.jpgIt's National Donut Day, everybody! This holiday actually dates back to the Great Depression, when the Salvation Army started this holiday to raise money and honor the "lassies," or female volunteers, who served during World War I.

This year, here are the ways you can get free donuts to celebrate:

Dunkin' Donuts
is offering a free donut of your choice with the purchase of any drink.

Krispy Kreme is offering one free donut of any kind to every customer, no purchase necessary. Click here to find a location near you.

Supermarket chain Winn Dixie is handing out free jumbo doughnut holes in Florida. Sorry, everybody else not in Florida.

Chain Tim Horton's is offering a free donut with any purchase, though you have to have the coupon in order to get the deal.

LaMars stores are giving away one free donut per person with no purchase needed, plus they are donating part of this week's sales to the tornado relief efforts.

Likewise, Entenmann's is donating $1 to the Salvation Army for every new "Like" on its Facebook page up to $30,000. You can also enter to win free Entenmann's donuts for a year.

Finally, TastyKake is offering a coupon good for a free donut for the first 5000 fans who enter on Facebook.
