'NCIS: Los Angeles' spinoff grabs John Corbett for lead role

The "Sex and the City" and "United States of Tara" star will play a character named Roy Quaid in the spinoff, TV Guide reports. He's a former NCIS agent who was forced to leave the field but still works as an analyst and is the senior member of his team.

Corbett joins Edwin Hodge ("Leverage") in the cast of the spinoff, which will be introduced in an episode of "NCIS: LA" in the spring. If it goes forward, the show will focus on a team of agents who work cases across the country.

Miguel Ferrer, who recurs on "NCIS: LA," has been bumped up to series-regular status and will also appear in the spinoff.

Corbett's other credits include "Parenthood," "Northern Exposure" and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
