The "Quantum Leap" actor is set to play NCIS Special Agent Pride, described as a man who "embodies New Orleans," driven by the "need to do what's right and does it all with warmth, passion, strength and humor. He's a unique federal agent working in one of this country's most unique cities."

The office at the heart of "NCIS: New Orleans" will handle cases "from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle," according to CBS' description of the pilot. "New Orleans with its rich setting of music, fun and debauchery is a magnet for military personnel on-line. And with fun comes trouble."

The spinoff pilot is set to air as part of a two-part "NCIS" episode this spring. CBS alos attempted a spinoff last year with "NCIS: Red," but opted not to go to series with it.

Bakula is currently appearing in HBO's "Looking," while his last series regular role was TNT's "Men of A Certain Age."
