Neflix introducing cheaper price plan with lower quality streams
Netflix is offering a more accessible price plan for those not willing to shell out for its traditional $7.99/month plan. The streaming service is now introducing a $6.99/month plan as its cheapest available for those who don't mind some of its drawbacks.
Unlike the traditional plan, this cheaper one only offers a single stream on one device at a time, and that stream will be in standard definition. While that might seem like a fair tradeoff, it is only one dollar more to get HD video and streaming available on two devices at the time.
This comes after Netflix introduced some more expensive price models, including a "family" plan at $11.99/month that allows up to four programs to be streamed simultaneously in HD on different devices. A $9.99/month price plan is also being tested that offers three simultaneous streams in HD.
The $6.99/month plan is only being offered to a select number of people, AdWeek reports. A spokesperson says, "We always are testing new things and this is a test for a $6.99 single stream plan. Not all people will see this option and it may not be something we ever offer generally."
