neil-diamond-2011-billboard-awards.jpgMusic legend Neil Diamond received the Icon Award at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards and then regaled the crowd with a rousing performance.

Diamond says of the Icon Award, "I love it. I don't know what it means, exactly, to be an icon. But I always wanted to be one. And I guess now I am. This has been a heck of a year. First the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame lets me in, go figure. And now I'm an icon. I'm going to Google it right after the show and find out exactly how an icon is supposed to handle himself. This is absolutely wonderful ... it's too much. I'm gonna shut up and sing."

And then he did. Diamond performed his legendary hits "Sweet Caroline" and "America," backed by a full gospel choir on the second song. The crowd went wild, as well they should. We particularly liked the shot of Eric Stonestreet singing along to "Caroline." Video below in case you missed it.
