Netflix sets 'Marco Polo' Season 1 December premiere date

marco-polo-netflix-lorenzo-richelmy.jpgNetflix is adding a new original scripted series to its lineup. Premiering on Dec. 12, 2014 at 12:01 p.m. ET/PT is the historical epic "Marco Polo."

In addition to releasing the first five images of the series ( see them here), Netflix also released a synopsis of "Marco Polo." It reads: "In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, 'Marco Polo' is based on the famed explorer's adventures in Kublai Khan's court in 13th century China."

Playing the titular Marco Polo is newcomer Lorenzo Richelmy (above). Also starring in the series is Zhu Zhu as Marco's love interest Kokachin, Joan Chen as Empress Chabi, Benedict Wong as Kublai Khan, Remy Hii as Prince Jingim, Olivia Cheng as Mei Lin, Claudia Kim as Khutulun, Uli Latukefu as Byamba, Chin Han as Jai Sidao and Tom Wu as Hundred Eyes.

Created by "Forbidden Kingdom's" John Fusco, "Marco Polo" will have a 10-episode first season and is part of a partnership between Netflix and The Weinstein Company.
