max-greenfield-spin.jpgIt all started as an Internet joke, but somehow, on Sunday, May 6, "New Girl" star Max Greenfield found himself teaching a spin class at a West Hollywood gym pseudo-in character as the lovable d-bag Schmidt.

After a fake workout video cover featuring Schmidt made the Internet rounds, Greenfield responded by creating an in-character video to go with the cover. Two weeks later, TV fans paid $100 a bike to support the charity Milk and Bookies and have Greenfield make them sweat.

Zap2it caught up with the actor in between his two packed classes, during which he played songs by Rihanna, the cast of "Glee" and other divas.

"It was so awesome," he says of the class. "I am so glad everybody showed up! It was such a great turnout for a really good cause; I love working with Milk and Bookies. I'm so glad everybody came out. It felt like a great opportunity to give back, and it was just fun. Sometimes these things feel very set up and weird, and this was just like 'let's get together, let's dance, let's have a good time.'"

There's a reason Greenfield was so good at teaching the class -- he's done it before. It's been a few years, though, so he was a little rusty. "A friend of mine opened up a gym a bunch of years back called Made in LA, which is a great gym in Hollywood, and she asked me if I would teach a Sunday class. I was a student of hers for a very long time and I was like 'yeah, sure.' So I did that for like a year and a half."

But Greenfield wasn't the only famous face in the room. " Busy Philipps would come, and a couple other actors, and it was a great time."

Still, despite his experience, Greenfield says the entire event was surreal. "The entire thing was nuts, but it was such a great group. Everybody was so fantastic, and everybody just crushed it."
