'Avatar': New pictures from James Cameron's sci-fi epic

A new three-and-a-half minute trailer of James Cameron's "Avatar" was released in theaters over the weekend, so you know that bad boy was online post-haste ... until the 20th Century Fox studio watchdogs nixed all the leaked clips.

Alas, the trailer won't be available online until October 29. But until then, check out some new pics from the 3D flick set to hit theaters and IMAX 3D on December 18th.

The hybrid live-action/animated movie promises a whole new generation of special effects -- including Zoe Saldana ("Star Trek") as Neytiri...

and Laz Alonso as Tsu'Tey...

The film will also feature Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver, the woman who gave new meaning to alien encounter.

"Terminator: Salvation" star Sam Worthington, Michelle Rodriguez ("Lost"), and CCH Pounder ("Brothers," "The Shield") round out the cast.

Can you hardly stand it? Just how excited are you about this project?

Check back later in the week for the trailer...
