News bites: '90210,' Leighton Meester, 'Last Comic Standing'
Zinser, who joined "90210" this season as surfer girl Ivy Sullivan, has been made a regular on The CW series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's her first regular role on a series; she previously guested on "Cold Case" and "Cupid."
The show, which was recently picked up for a third season, returns to The CW on March 9 after a three-month layoff.
- "Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester is joining "House's" Hugh Laurie in an indie film called "The Oranges."
The movie follows the unlikely romance between a man (Laurie) and a friend's daughter (Meester), Variety reports. Catherine Keener ("Friends with Money," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin") will also star in the film, which Julian Farino ("Entourage") is directing. Ian Helfer and Jay Reiss wrote the script.
Filming is scheduled for April in New York -- around the same time Meester hits theaters in "Date Night," an action comedy starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell.
- NBC is resurrecting "Last Comic Standing" yet again and has tapped "The Office's" Craig Robinson as host.
The show will begin its seventh season this summer after taking 2009 off; it also took a break in 2005 before being revived in 2006. Open casting calls for the show will take place in Los Angeles on March 6 and New York on March 21; NBC.com has details.
Robinson, whose movie credits include "Pineapple Express" and the forthcoming "Hot Tub Time Machine," will be the fourth host of "Last Comic Standing," following Jay Mohr, Anthony Clark and Bill Bellamy.
