Nigella Lawson, Charles Saatchi granted divorce in quick hearing
Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi are one step closer to making their divorce official.
The celebrity couple met at a hearing in London's High Court that reportedly lasted little more than than a minute. During the hearing, District Judge Anne Aitken gave the couple a decree nisi, which is the first stage of a divorce.
So what comes next? After waiting six weeks and a day, Saatchi, 70, and Lawson, 53, can be granted a decree absolute. After that, their marriage will completely be over. Considering the fact the two separated in June and seem to mutually want this split, waiting that time shouldn't be too hard.
Saatchi filed for divorce from Lawson after 10 years of marriage last month. The news came after photos of him seemingly choking her appeared online. He still stands by the fact that those pictures were misleading.
"I am sorry to announce that Nigella Lawson and I are getting divorced," Saatchi said of the divorce in a statement. "I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way."
